Ubisoft’s Cancelled Immortals: Fenyx Rising Sequel Was Reportedly “A Game Very Different From The Rest Of The Ubisoft Portfolio”

Ubisoft is one of the industries larger publishers, with huge franchises and IP under its belt, though none (at least seemingly to Ubisoft) more important than Assassin’s Creed.

Its the franchise that Ubisoft is pouring most of its resources into, which makes for a difficult environment for new IP to surface. That’s what happened though when Immortals Fenyx Rising launched.

A sequel was planned for it, though was then cancelled, and a new report potentially shows why it might’ve been nixed, as it was said to be “a game very different from the rest of the Ubisoft portfolio.”

Now it’s not that it was different that got it cancelled, more that according to a report from Axios, it seems that it began to scale in cost beyond what Ubisoft seemed to have been willing to spend on it.

As we’ve heard before, this sequel was meant to focus on Polynesian mythology, and included in this new report would have players moving from fictionalized versions of New Zealand, Hawai’i, Tahiti and Easter Island.
