Sony Will Acquire Audio Tech Developer And Award-Winning Headphone Maker Audeze

There are certain acquisitions we’ve seen from Sony that just make a lot of sense – take their acquisition of Nixxes.

As PlayStation looks to make PC ports of its first-party games an important part of the business, it acquires a studio that’s the best in the business for porting games to PC.

Thursday’s acquisition announcement is of the same ilk, as Sony have announced they will acquire Audeze, a leading audio technology company who make incredible award-winning headphones, including award winning gaming headphones.

We’ve already seen the Pulse 3D headphones from Sony, and on Wednesday it was made public that the next tier of those, the Pulse Elite along with the Pulse Explore earbuds are incoming.

Sony’s always done well with its accessories, and having Audeze potentially be the team powering its audio accessories, that could increase the quality, and premium pricing, of the next headphones we see from Sony.

Not to mention Audeze will bring its own audio expertise, which developers within PlayStation Studios could potentially take great advantage of.

It’s important to note that this acquisition won’t stop Audeze from doing what it already does, as it will still act independently and develop headphones for all platforms.

Though now it can potentially play a big part in future PlayStation projects on the audio side.

“Audeze is a premier brand for headphones, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation players.” said senior vice president of platform experience Hideaki Nishino on the acquisition.

“We’re excited to bring Audeze’s expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset.”

For Audeze’s part, chief executive officer Sankar Thiagasamudram said “Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to scale our business, as we continue with our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles, and gamers.”

“We’re also looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.”

Once this acquisition is complete, Sony will have the potential to provide the best audio experience possible to players, which is exciting to consider.
