Mat Piscatella has revealed that the PS5 was the best-selling hardware platform in the US during July 2023 in terms of both dollar and unit sales.
Sony’s console has been seeing major success this year now that stock is readily available, not to mention a temporary price cut during August that has seen sales sky rocket. In Europe, PS5 sales in July 2023 were up 244% year-on-year, while in the UK, sales were up 68% over the same period last year.
Sony announced during its latest financial call that the PS5 has now shipped 40 million worldwide since its launch in November 2020. The console was released right in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in major stock shortages due to a lack of manufacturing components, which lasted around two years.
Retailers were able to restock the PS5 at various intervals following the launch, although supply was extremely limited and scalpers took advantage of the low numbers to buy in bulk and resell consoles at a much higher price.
